LSUS Degree: Bachelor of General Studies with emphasis in Art and Music History in 1995
What I do now: Commercial REALTOR® with U.L. Coleman Companies
About my job: I provide commercial leasing and brokerage services.
How I got to LSUS: When I was growing up, Dr. Marsala lived across the street and I wanted to go to the college where he taught.
Fond Memories of LSUS: I still keep up with quite a few of my friends from LSUS.
LSUS faculty who helped me: Dr. Marsala was instrumental in my success at LSUS.
How LSUS helped me succeed: LSUS gave me the tools, one-on-one instruction, and care to succeed at anything I wanted.
Advice to college-bound students: Take advantage of the one-on-one learning environment that you cannot get at larger universities and realize that the professors and students you see every day will be the people with whom you do business in the future.
Advice to someone who wants to enter my field: Commercial real estate requires strong analytical skills involving accounting and marketing. Keeping abreast of market trends and being comfortable in a sales role are also vital.
Tips on choosing a major or career: There may not be a single career choice but multiple career choices that are right for a person. A career may form because you train for it specifically in college or post graduation job availability may be the catapult for your career. Be open-minded to many opportunities.
My toughest professional challenge: Learning to evolve from college student to professional is not instantaneous but requires years of life experiences, which will continue to develop for a person’s entire existence.
My toughest personal challenge: Balancing family, self, work, and community service is always challenging but extremely gratifying.
Successes (honors, awards, etc.) in my life: I was chosen one of North Louisiana’s top 40 Under 40 by the Greater Shreveport Chamber of Commerce in 2008 and was chosen as Rookie of the Year by the Women’s Council of REALTORS® in 2007.
I’ve learned this from life: Helping others without any expectations of return is life’s most rewarding experience.
