LSUS Degrees: Bachelor of Science in Computer Science & Master of Science in Systems Technology

What I do now: Founder/CEO of Trusted Data Solutions, LLC

About my job: I founded Trusted Data Solutions, LLC, five years ago after moving back to the area to be closer to family. Trusted Data Solutions is an information technology provider that has partnered with Cisco Systems to provide a wide range of technologies to its customers, including voice, wireless, networking and security. I have been fortunate to work with a wide variety of businesses across Northwest Louisiana and beyond, ranging from small- to medium-sized businesses to hospitals, schools, local government, manufacturers and even production studios. The company even received a Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR) grant in 2005 to work on the Low-Cost Kill Vehicle (LCKV) program with the U.S. Department of Defense Missile Defense Agency and Raytheon Missile Systems.

How I got to LSUS: After growing up in Homer, La., I decided I wanted to go to a college away from home, but not too far away. LSUS offered that opportunity and a variety of degree programs.

Fond Memories of LSUS: One of my fondest memories at LSUS is meeting my wife, Karen Greco McCoy '97, in calculus class. I also enjoyed playing intramural sports such as football, basketball and softball. This allowed me to meet students that I might not have met otherwise and to make lifelong friends that I still talk to today.

LSUS faculty who helped me: Donna Austin gave me my first job at LSUS in the computer lab, which paved the way for where I am today.  I also enjoyed Dr. John Sigle in the computer science department.

How LSUS helped me succeed: The computer science program is one of the most challenging degree programs offered at LSUS.  Being a part of such a program and succeeding in it showed me that with hard work and determination, I can accomplish anything.

Advice to college-bound students: Work hard, play hard and, most of all, do something you’re passionate about, in which you can make a difference.

Advice to someone who wants to enter my field: The technology field is ever-changing, so be prepared to constantly learn and adapt in order to stay at the forefront.

Tips on choosing a major or career: Take a variety of courses to see what peaks your interest and participate in internships when possible. Do NOT be afraid to change majors or careers when you are not happy or personally fulfilled in your current endeavors.

My toughest professional challenge: My toughest challenge was starting the company with only a handful of clients and no office, just a vision. But through passion, dedication, hard work, and God's guidance, I was able to grow the vision into reality.

My toughest personal challenge: My toughest personal challenge has been to learn from past disappointments and challenges, and to become a better, more well-rounded and compassionate person.

Successes (honors, awards, etc.) in my life:  In 2007, I was selected as a 40 Under 40 recipient by City Lights Magazine, and in 2008, Trusted Data Solutions was nominated as Small Business of the Year.

I’ve learned this from life: I’ve learned that true happiness and success are not attained through social status, money and material items, but through the ability to affect someone’s life in a positive, meaningful way.
