LSUS Degree: B.A. in History, 1978

How I got to LSUS: LSUS attained 4 year status about the same time I graduated from Jesuit High school (1973). Due to family finances and my father’s health, I needed to stay home and go to school.

Fond Memories of LSUS: The trip to New Orleans for the King Tut exhibit. Playing cards at the snack shack. Friday movies in the SLA and the dances at the American Legion/ Progressive Men’s club, being selected to the first Who’s Who Among College Students at LSUS.

LSUS Faculty who helped me: Lee Mussleman and the Milton family

How LSUS helped me succeed: I learned to interact with a larger group of people, to come out of my shell

What I do now: I am an independent landman

About my job: I research the history of property ownership, obtain oil and gas leases and to prepare instruments to cure title defects

Advice to college-bound students: Become involved academically, socially, and in extra- curricular activities. Find what you are passionate about and pursue it.

Advice to someone who wants to enter my field: Major in fields that require critical, analytical thinking; prepare to be a lawyer

Tips on choosing a major or career: Again, select or choose what you like and focus on that rather than trying to select something that pays well.

My toughest professional challenge: Adapting to the changes in methods, such as computers and in the legal requirements

My toughest personal challenge: My father’s death when I was 19 and a sophomore at LSUS

Successes (honor, awards, etc.): My family is my greatest achievement, seeing my sons become honest, well- rounded men. Professionally, having the respect of my peers.

I’ve learned this from my life: Be patient and slow to reacting before carefully considering different approaches or opinions in dealing with problems.
